Standards of Practice

Provided by InterNACHI.

As an industry standard, home inspectors need to join an association such as The Canadian Association of Home & Property Inspectors (CAHPI) or The Inter National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI). In order to join an association an inspector must complete training through the association. The inspector must also agree to adhere to the Standards of Practice (SOP) set out by that association. The SOP’s were created to help standardize home inspections. This helps our clients understand what they can expect their inspector to check and report on. The standards also help protect the inspector’s safety and the Seller’s property. If you have concerns about a home inspection you recently received and don’t think the inspector did his or her diligence, you should find out what association your inspector belongs to and look over their SOP. If you are looking to get an inspection and you want to know what you’re paying for you should also look at the SOP.
